Taking regular vacations is critical to help you relax and unwind, but it’s easy to pack on the pounds over even a short holiday if you aren’t careful. Thankfully, there are lots of different ways to ensure you help remain fit and healthy while on vacation—without feeling like you’re back home at the gym all over again. A spokesperson from luxury vacation company, Addison Yacht Charters, recommends these 3 tips to help creatively incorporate physical fitness into your vacation.

Choose Your Locations Wisely

Depending of the types of exercise you enjoy most: barefoot running, hiking, walking, camping—or watersports, like sailing and jetskiing—you will want to choose your future vacation location or locations carefully. Many vacation destinations are conducive to being explored at your leisure and without a tour group, while others are not. Furthermore, many coastal destinations have a rainy season that can quickly dash any chance of enjoying watersports upon your arrival. A little bit of research online can save headaches and regret later.

Another consideration in choosing your location is whether you want to get a detailed lay of the land in just one or two areas, or split your time over many different cities. Cruises, for example, allow you to travel from one location to the next; the trade-off is that you typically may only have one or two days in each city to explore. If you would rather become an expert in learning all of the hidden gems and unexplored nooks and crannies of a place over many days, skip the commercial cruise line.

Consider the Caribbean

When it comes to travel time, amenities, affordability, luxury, and beautiful beaches, the Caribbean still remains one of the most popular locations in the world for many vacationers to enjoy their weeks off. Hiring a yacht charter can help you explore between different areas of the same island, or different islands altogether, depending on your preferences and schedule. Consider:

• Snorkeling and scuba diving in Jamaica
• Early-morning yoga in Cozumel
• Running in your Vibrams on the beaches of BVI
• Ziplining through the jungles of the Dominican Republic
• Exploring the caves of Turks & Caicos

No matter how you enjoy spending your time, there is always some sort of outdoor activity to help keep you physically and emotionally healthy during your Caribbean vacation.

Don’t Forget Indoor Activities

Weather can change quickly. As a backup, you will want to make sure indoor fitness activities are available to you. When selecting a hotel, or resort, double-check on details like the gym, pool, and other fitness areas. A quick call to the hotel before booking can verify whether any of these amenities will be an extra cost or under renovation during your visit.
