How the Primal Professional Barefoot Dress Shoe Came to Be

by Brian Patterson » on Nov 09, 2011 6

A few days back we ran a feature on the Primal Professional, an impressive looking traditional men’s dress shoe that holds all of the minimalist/barefoot features that we love:  a thin sole, zero drop, minimal arch and support, and a super light weight.

The Primal Professional Barefoot Shoe

I was really intrigued by these shoes, so I shot an email over to their creator asking for a little more information on his story and background.  Mountain, the man behind the idea and development of the kicks, kindly responded with the exclusive video below.  While he never ended up adopting FiveFingers into his shoe rotation, he is a big fan of barefoot and minimalist shoes, which is cool with us.  Checkout this video for more information on how the Primal Professional shoes came to be:

We’re supporting these shoes, and if you like them, you should too!  Click on this link to be taken to the page where you can contribute to the launch of these shoes. There are a number of different funding levels, and you get a great product in return at each level (from Paleo beef jerky all the way up to a pair of the shoes from the first production run).  Just think of yourself as an angel investor in a product that our community could really come to love.

We don’t get anything in return if you support this project financially; we just think its cool and love the idea and entrepreneurial spirit.

Hey Dan, are you a part of any barefoot forums? You can organize a bulk purchase there =) Like I wrote in the description, “It’s like cowpooling/meatsharing the Primal Professional,” haha. The last 2 times I shared a cow, it was mostly with online folks I had never met before!

Hey zac, did you get a chance to watch our video at http://www.theprimalprofessional.com ? Our shoes aren’t just for business casual, but for business professional. While there are many alternatives that can pass a more lax dress code (e.g. some people call their black KSOs “dress vibrams”), our shoes are for situations where you cannot have your professionalism questioned on account of footwear: job interviews, important clients, formal affairs, etc. I hope that helps!

Looks pretty sweet! As a IT professional I get to wear my VFFs to work but for more formal meetings such as with vendors or clients where large contracts are at stake these would be amazing. I may have to buy a pair and do a review on my blog. Disclaimer: my blog is a work in progress =)

  6. Mountain,

Great seeing you the other day. Great product! Cant wait.
