MyFiveFingers.com’s Most Popular Posts of 2011

by Brian Patterson » on Dec 30, 2011 1

We’ve had an amazing year of growth here at MyFiveFingers.com thanks to the awesome community that has sprung up around the minimalist shoes movement. As we move into a new year, I wanted to take a few moments to reflect back on some of the most popular posts of 2011.  Some of them stirred controversy, while others covered new products or featured celebrities in FiveFingers.

In no particular order, these were the most popular posts of 2011:

FiveFingers Giveaway – This was a certified runaway hit.  We gave away a pair of FiveFingers each month in 2011.  We are excited to continue this through 2012!  If you haven’t already entered, use the form right below this to sign up for the newsletter and enter to win.  You can also follow us on Twitter, Like us on Facebook, and write a blog post about the giveaway for additional entries.

The Best (most comfortable) Shoes for Pregnancy – If you’re pregnant, FiveFingers are for you.  This article has proven quite popular with the ladies.

Merrell Trail Glove and Merrell True Glove Reviews – Merrell’s introductory minimalist shoes, the Trail Glove and True glove, quickly became some of the most popular minimalist shoes on the market.  As a result, these reviews of them became pretty popular themselves.

Adidas Adipure Trainers – Adidas is making toe shoes?!?!  Adidas indeed introduced shoes with 5 separate toe pockets, and they were promptly sued by Vibram.  While that works itself out in the courts, you can see our coverage of their announcement on this post.

An Introduction to the Paleo Diet – Adam Farrah hit the ground running with his first post on MyFiveFingers.com.  This detailed article series on what the Paleo diet is all about has been hugely popular.

An Introduction to CrossFit – Adam followed up his Paleo Diet series with another wildly popular series detailing the workout phonemon CrossFit.  Its safe to say that the community really loved this as well.

Are Bikilas the Worst Thing to Happen to the FiveFinger Lineup?  – Nothing like a little controversy.  Writer Corey Nagle doesn’t like the affect that Bikilas have had on the rest of the FiveFingers lineup.  Debate ensues.

Keith Olbermann Gets a Stress Fracture from FiveFingers – While on the Tonight Show with David Letterman, Keith Olbermann blamed FiveFingers for a stress fracture he got in his foot while wearing them.  You may remember that right after we published the post, we tweeted it to Keith Olbermann and he replied directly to us with the following quote.  Good Times.

Dear Moron: I had walked in the shoes for a year. I had just increased the run to TWO minutes. I then suffered the stress fracture. The shoes are not safe for running.

Do You Wear FiveFingers at Work? – We had people tweet in pictures of themselves wearing FiveFingers and made a massive post with all of the pictures.  We still get occasional submissions and add them to the end of the post.

We also began to feature celebrities, athletes, and other notable public figures in FiveFingers.  So far we have:  The Wiggles, Josh Duhamal (from 2010), Sergey Brin (Google Co-Founder), Randy Moss, Danny Glover, Thomas Jane, Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jack Osbourne, Kate Hudson, and Ozzy from Survivor.

Cheers to a happy, successful, and minimalist 2012!

Besides CrossFit, if you want to go true minimalist, consider reading up on Dr. McGuff’s “Body By Science” and his approach to exercise. There are many SuperSlow practitioners & HIT-ers who you could approach to learn more!
