Born to Run Coach Talks Barefoot Running Tips

by Kat » on May 21, 2013 3

Run Coach Eric Orton

Eric Orton, the coach from Born to Run, has a new book out. It’s called The Cool Impossible and it seeks to teach minimalist runners how to avoid injury, embrace the barefoot lifestyle more fully, and get in the right mindset to push farther and faster.

Check out this video clip of the author briefly discussing his time spent in Mexico with the Tarahumara tribe. Though most of us have seen Chris McDougall’s perspective in Born to Run, this is a great opportunity to learn from the coach who got McDougall in the best shape of his life.

Check out BBC’s coverage of the situation and learn barefoot running tips from the Mexican tribe.

I have had my vibram since last summer. I don t run that much. 5k 2 or 3 times a week. I still get alot of pain in my calf 2 days after each run , really sore. is that normal? Sore enough that I must walk sideway for a bit when I get up or after I have sited down for work for more than a couple hours

When I began barefoot running my calves fetl really sore; a lot more sore than running in shoes. After a while I realized I was running too much on the balls of my feet and began adopting a forefoot-to-midfoot landing. If your calves are still that sore, you might be running too high on your toes and not allowing your heel to settle down and “kiss” the ground AFTER your forefoot lands. I hope this helps.

Ugh. I should have edited my above post for spelling errors. I think you still get the message.
