Seriously Contemplating Terra Plana Aqua Shoes

by Daniel Dessinger » on Feb 17, 2010 4

After this past week, when snow magically covered the face of DFW, I’ve gotten out of the habit of wearing my Fivefingers. I’m not about to endure cold wet soggy feet all day every day, so I’ve been switching back and forth between my old TOMS and my Diesels. They’re the closest things to flat soled shoes, but my back and joints ache when I wear them. Nothing feels as good or looks as bad as barefoot.

I keep hearing about Terra Plana’s Aqua shoes, and I might have to try them out. While each toe isn’t jutting out in separate chambers, “An ultra thin (3mm) puncture resistant sole allows your feet to be as millions of years of evolutionary design intended Barefoot!”

The downside? These are suede shoes, so your feet will still get soaked when you step into a puddle. Sigh. There ARE other Terra Plana shoe options, but these are my favorite style. They come in brown, black, blue, white, green, and gray.

What do you think? Should I get them? Or have you found a better alternative?

I think you'll be okay stepping in puddles (briefly) in the Aquas. The leather isn't waterproof (though I bet you could spray it down with some scotchguard to help it along the way), but short steps in puddles won't leave you sopping wet.

Totally unrelated note, wanted to see if you had any interest in getting on this page of VFF fans: http://birthdayshoes.com/links/ — right now I'm just listing them on a first-come basis, but once the list gets large enough, I'd order them out a bit better (think: categories like running, workouts, VFF-dedicated sites like this one, etc.). Let me know if you decide to sport the badge!

its the Aquas vs my VFFclassics vs New balance mt100

i feel akward in my vff so these other two are the contenders

  3. Just published a new post about your quandry. Hopefully some of our other
readers will pitch in their two cents.

for 155$ NO WAY! I cant justify a purchase like that without at least gore tex XCR in them. If they make a gore tex version then HELL YES!

    Maybe I should write them a email…

I chimed in on your new post as well, thanks for that. Searching on the net brought up a blog with 90% women bashing the look of these, if you find it you will also see my post calling them shallow, LOL.

    What about the FLOW's?
