The Rugged Maniac

by Brian Patterson » on Jun 07, 2011 5

We recently met the Rugged Maniac team and quickly hit it off.  For those of you not familiar with the Rugged Maniac, here is how they describe themselves:

Rugged Maniac was designed with the assistance of Navy SEALs for maniacs who want a challenge. Those who push their limits know themselves in a way those who don’t never will. Rugged Races’ events combine the most rugged terrain and burly obstacles to allow those with a sense of adventure to define themselves, then bask in their glory at a rocking after party with live music, food and plenty of beer. There are no races out there like this! The others only try. We won’t run you around a glorified golf course and proclaim it rugged. We won’t make you wait in ridiculous lines mid-course and pretend you have been challenged. We won’t charge you to park. We pride ourselves on our courses and we promise they will punish you in a mighty way.

We thought this was pretty cool, and we liked it even more when they told us that, “Everyone serious runs in FiveFingers!”.  We asked for some pictures to share with everyone, and here is what they provided (notice the FiveFingers in many of the pics). Looks like a blast!

Have you ever done anything like this? What do you think?

I’ll let you know in September, hopefully I will be at the Southwick, MA race.

This looks like crazy fun, I want in!

I did the one in Richmond in my VFF and it was the best decision I ever made. Obstacles were easier, of course the run was easier. Other people were having their shoes suctioned off in the deep mud. Not me. :) I can’t wait to do it again. Warrior Dash is next.

Very interesting about the regular shoes getting in the way !

I’m so glad to see this post. I am doing the Warrior Dash this Sunday in MA and I wasn’t sure if I could do it in my VFF. Excited to try them out on the course!
