Trail Running in the Netherlands
Last Sunday I joined in a new trailrun in the Netherlands: Trailrun by the Sea, which is situated in Renesse, in the south-west of our country. I had no idea what to expect of the course, but I was very excited to find out. It was better then I could ever imagine: 35 km of heavy loose sand, dunes, singletracks, more loose sand, steep uphill paths, grassy paths and to top it off, a long stair at the very end of the trail. Loved it.
But, since I was running this one as a training run, I had time to have fun with photographers. I was wearing very bright gear, so I can be recognized quite easily. I’m the one with the pink cap.
After about 25 km we had to cross a (very narrow) river.
I was pacing for the guy behind me and he had some difficulties keeping up, so I decided to give him some extra time and went back through the river.
Of course I had to turn around again and go through for the third time to get back on track.
See? Lots of fun! I also had fun with the peel of an orange, but I haven’t found that photo yet. I’ll post it as soon as I have it!
Oh, and can you see which of my many pairs of FiveFingers I’m wearing?
Hey Paula,
can you tell us what backpack we can see on the pics?
Thx Florian
Hi Florian,
That’s a Salomon Skin Pro 14+3. Normally I wouldn’t bring this size for a 35 km run, but I was testing it for my coming events. It’s perfect. :-D
Ciao, Paula
Hi Paula,
Would you use that for a 24h adventure race including mountain biking, trekking, water tubing and running up a 3km mountain?
Or do you think it’s not durable enough?
Thanks,
Jonas
Hi Jonas,
Yes, I would use that for adventure racing, no doubt whatsoever. It’s big enough to take quite some gear. And if necessary you can attach extra pockets or poles.
Ciao, Paula
Thanks a lot for your reply!
Is it possible to squeeze in a 3L bladder? Have you done that or are you only using the 1.5L one?
Thanks again,
Jonas
hi Jonas,
I only used the 1.5L bladder, but I’m sure you can also fit in a 3L. Maybe with some adjustments or different placement. You can also fit bidons in the sidepockets. I tried that, they are easily accessible and are not in the way while running.
Which adventure race are you planning to do?
Ciao, Paula
Hi Paula,
I’m planning to do the 24h Mt Apo Challenge in the Phillipines. Going with The Chain Reaction Project as part of a fundraising project against trafficking.
Cheers,
Jonas
