Another FitWit Picture
Another picture from Tommy Housworth in his FiveFingers at FitWit (a local fitness camp):
In the summer of 2009, I was bitten on the foot by a copperhead snake. It was pretty intense and scary. As I recovered, I did some reading on the anatomy of the human foot, and that’s what led me to start running in Vibrams. Now, I train in them too – everything from kettlebells to jumping rope to sprinting. It just feels healthier, lighter, and more natural.
I own two pairs of Vibrams. A black pair of KSOs and a white/green pair of Bikilas. Love the Bikilas for running and FitWit, and often wear the KSOs for walking, yoga, and even climbing Stone Mountain.
I’ve not fully embraced the Paleo/Primal lifestyle, but I do see the benefits that it offers and I try to take sort of a ‘middle way’ approach. The Vibrams are a key part of that because, while I believe we were designed to be barefoot most of the time, we’ve created surfaces and situations that make it a bit perilous. The Vibrams give me just enough protection and confidence, while still maintaining a barefoot vibe.
Couldn’t have said it better myself. Feel the same way about my Vibrams. I love them to run in and find them suitable for most cross training. As soon as I can figure out how to climb a rope in them, I’ll be good to go! :)
